Presentation

Introduction

Lions Clubs and Districts have distinctly different needs on the internet. A Lions Club requires that it provide information to its members and their local community through its website, email and other publicity programs. This information is used to promote its projects within the club and community. This information is used to promote the club's goals of community service, retention and recruitment of members.

A District provides much more Lions Information to members within its district. Its goals are to educate Lions and leaders toward better membership, leadership and project development. Its community service goals are also served toward keeping Lions informed about these projects and their progress.

LionNet and LionWAP offer Free and Easy websites for Lions Clubs and Districts. It is free because of the generosity of a small number of organizations, individual members and clubs. Support is provided by a number of volunteers around the world.

LionWAP provides a simple template, so little technical skills are required. Simply FILL IN THE BLANK. Other features that are included is: Photo Album, Group Email, Message Board, Chat Room, Easy Links, Webpage Counter and on-line Frequently Asked Questions guide. A Free LionWAP website may also be used to simply Autoforward to an existing website. This will provide a link to that Lions Club or District website in the LionWAP catalog and search database.

Lions Clubs may select and change the webpage appearance, simply by altering the selection of background graphic, colors and the Template setting. A small amount of HTML code can improve the presentation. Lions who are familiar with HTML may use the "Use only Activities Free Form" setting of the TEMPLATE field and generate their own custom appearance of a one page website.

Districts may use LionWAP too. But their needs and appearance is very different. Districts would design their own website using the Free Form template setting.

Getting Started with your Lions Club webpage

Visit the website at www.lionwap.org

Pick a username that matches your club's name, but include your state or province designation. (Your username becomes your website name)

Example: The Watertown Lions Club in Connecticut is WatertownCT. The full website address is www.lionwap.org/WatertownCT

Click where it says "New Users: Click Here To Create a New Page"

Read startup instructions and click "Continue" at the bottom of the page

Get started with at least the minimum amount of information. Club Name, State, Country, Club President's name, Your name (as it would display it as webmaster) and your real email address. At the bottom of the screen, enter your Username and easy to remember password. Take the time to write down your password.

Then click SUBMIT at the bottom of the page.

It was important to spell your email address correctly, as your new webpage will be viewed and approved by volunteers within a few days. Your Lions Club name, state and President's name helps these volunteers to know that your webpage is for a valid Lions Club. You will receive a confirmation email when your webpage is reviewed.

Keep in mind that you will become a communications conduit for your district, as many Lions will not show their email address on-line. I recommend that you seek an alternate free email address at yahoo.com for this purpose. Check that email often.
